I'm so glad we're past the politically-charged 2008. For now, at least, it seems as though some of the furor has died down. And since I have very little patience for polarization among my friends and family members, it's a relief.
Aside from politics, though, which by the nature of the issues involved almost forces people to choose sides, there are some other, rather mundane things in life in which people "choose sides," too. In conversations I've had over the years, I've realized that people see these things in black-and-white, that they either love or hate them ... hardly anyone falls in the middle. Here's my partial mental list of these things:
1. Nickelback
2. Collard greens
3. Star Trek (movies and TV series)
4. Oysters
5. Julia Roberts
6. M*A*S*H (movie and TV series)
7. The Bachelor
8. Metallica
9. Sanjaya
10. Olives (green and black)

I agree. I'm cast out in the world for knowing nothing about and therefore having no opinion of Star Trek.
I know more about it than I'd LIKE to, since Grayson is a fan, and Nick and Nathaniel have even started watching some of the early eps on DVD.
When I hear Nickleback (accidentally, since I would NEVER listen to them on purpose), I want to hit something, they suck so badly.
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. You hate them.
