Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme

I read yesterday in a Better Homes & Gardens Special Publication that "Spices taste best when used within six months of purchase. Keep track of time by writing the date on the label when you buy a new one."

Note to self: Throw away spices that came in spice rack PURCHASED IN OCTOBER OF 1995. I'm surprised they haven't fossilized.

Who knew?

I would predict that 99.9% of the general population's spices (at least some of them) are over one year old. Unless you're cooking or baking every single day, those things just don't get used up quickly and seem to last forevah.
I have spices I've moved from house to house (probably) since I was in law school.
