Monday is as good a day as any to lead you astray

Is anyone out there on a diet?

I hope not.

I recently saw a recipe that piqued my interest, and I decided to make it yesterday. It's Betty Crocker's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies, and they are YUM.

First you mix up a box of brownie mix. It would probably behoove you to get all the lumps out better than I did. I was a little impatient.

Then you put the brownies in a greased 9x13 dish, and you mix up a batch of cookie dough. Not surprisingly, Betty Crocker recommended Betty Crocker cookie mix.

Next, you drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough into your brownie mix. Keep a paper towel nearby to wipe the drool forming at the corners of your mouth.

Admire your handiwork from different angles while you're waiting for the oven to preheat to 350. Ignore the lumps that you should have taken care of in Step 1.

Pop that baby in the oven for 40 minutes. Try very hard to distract your brownie-obsessed children from the awesome scent emanating from the oven. (The lumps don't seem to have any effect on the scent.)

I don't know if this is common or not, but I had about half of the cookie batter left over. WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?

So I went ahead and baked the rest of 'em after the brownies came out.

They looked good, but they didn't look as INTRIGUING as this:

I'd never seen anything quite like this ... a brownie/chocolate chip hybrid. YUMMERS.

The next step was icing. I used Duncan Hines icing out of the can (BLASPHEMY!), only because I was in a hurry. It would be better with homemade, clearly.

But in the interest of time, I went with canned. I don't think it ruined it. AT ALL.

We cut into them later in the evening, and they looked AWESOME.

I had to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream so that it could be eaten IN THE WAY GOD INTENDED.

The verdict: it was delicious but RICH. This isn't a problem for me, since you could basically hook me up to a chocolate IV and I'd be perfectly fine with that. The other thing is that -- and I hope Betty Crocker doesn't sue me -- I don't really care for Betty Crocker cookies. I think it would be better with Tollhouse, so I might try that next time.

Because will there BE a next time? OH YES INDEEDY.

Yum. I saw this exact recipe, too, oddly and we love them, too! I didn't have time to take photos of mine.

If it had been me, I'd have eaten the extra cookie dough. It's a weakness.

Paige, did you use Betty Crocker mix? And how did you not have extra cookie dough?
