Two weeks ago when I took the boys to get their hair cut, I got all spontaneous and asked the stylist (you still call them that when you're just at Great Clips, right?) about a new shampoo for myself.
"Spontaneous?" Um, YEAH. I don't do much on the spur of the moment, so quickly screwing up the courage to ask about a new shampoo that might help my oily hair set my heart to racing. The stylist recommended the Biolage Normalizing Shampoo, which I was happy to try.
I started using it that very evening, and within two days I felt like I had someone else's hair on my head. Like, CRAZY TOWN, Internet. It felt so light and easy to style, I didn't know what to do with myself. So when I was relaying this Hair Epiphany to my friend Melanie over supper last night, I mentioned that it had been a really long time since I'd tried a different shampoo. I mean, who keeps track?
Melanie: "How long?"
Me: "Well, I used Pert Plus until about my sophomore year of high school, and then I switched to Pantene Pro-V shampoo plus conditioner and used it until two weeks ago. So ... 20 or 22 years? What year is it now? Yeah, since 1989."
Melanie: [gasp] [sputter] [cackle]
So I might have been Pantene's Most Loyal Customer EVER and not even have realized it until now. And WOW with the build-up on my hair. They aren't kidding about that ... I no longer think it's an urban legend. Quite frankly, it's a miracle my hair isn't just one big piece of Plexiglass by now.
So now the question becomes, what shampoo will I be using in 2030? I'm willing to bet it'll be Biolage. BECAUSE RUTS ARE MY FRIEND.
Oh wait. I have one more question:

I can so relate! I finally started using a new shampoo in August and now every time I wash my hair I feel like I had it done at the salon - makes me wis I had switched from my old brand (which I had been used for nearly 7 years!)
I am also a fan of ruts - you're not the only one!
Have a great Thursday!
You are not alone with your Ruts! I've been using the Aussie stuff since....well, forever I guess! Maybe it's time for a change?
I have very THICK, very oily hair too. I could never use Pantene (I've tried several kinds). It's too greasy and made my hair feel heavy too. I have to wash it every day and most of the time I'll use one kind for a few days then switch to another kind for a few days and back and forth... So I guess I use 2 kinds of shampoo! Same conditioner though....
I can hear Melanie's reaction in my head. And rightfully so. That's nothing short of an amazing commitment. I'm not even that commited to myself, let alone my shampoo.
Hey girl, wanna get the gunk out of your hair? I use Phytodensium when my hair starts feeling heavy and gunky. It's pretty expensive, but will last a LONG time, and you only use a tiny bit. And I think you needed to list this post under Uncomfortable Truths. :)
I love how you call us "Internet". Cracks me up every time.
I change shampoo every time I buy. I spend about 5 minutes in the shampoo aisle smelling all the different ones then choose by which has the best scent. Only caveat is that it has to be for dry or color treated hair. And i have to buy the matching conditioner. I'm anal like that :-)
As much as I would love to get fancy shampoo, I buy what's on special. I might try that one though.

I use Biolage, too, because once upon a time my husband told me it makes my hair smell sexy. Now I'm afraid to switch because I need all the sexy mojo I can get.
Katherine,
Thanks for sharing this story. I'm glad a Great Clips stylist was able to help you out and recommend a great product.
Thanks for stopping in!

Tamar, OK, seven years makes me feel a LITTLE better.
Robin, you too! I think I e-mailed to tell you that the Aussie stuff gives me migraines, so I can't use that.
Lacy, stylists have told me that for years, but I never heeded their advice. Now my oily hair and I are believers!
Paigie, yeah, Melanie had one of her classic responses to my idiosyncrasies. ;)
Megan, "phytodensium" sounds like a prehistoric creature. But I'll Google the heck out of it and see what I need to do with it! And you're totally right ... this one SHOULD be filed under Uncomfortable Truths!
Meredith, I can't smell all the shampoos! I will certainly USE drugstore shampoo, but the scents give me migraines so I have to be really careful about odors!
Rene, you're a girl after my own heart! I'm all about cheap shampoo, but I'm giving Biolage a chance.
Erin, you've got three kids. I think you've got ALL the sexual mojo you need. ;)
Kasey, I'm honored that you found me and commented! I'm a believer in my stylist's advice from now on. She was so right!
