He can read all the IMPORTANT stuff

I can't remember if I've blogged excessively and inappropriately about this yet, but Jake expressed an interest in reading quite a while back and has been working on his letters and sounds for months now. Just after he turned 2, he passed the evaluation to enter the Phonics program at daycare, and he's just moved into level two of the program. COULD I BE PROUDER? No.

At home I've been working with him on his letters and sounds using flash cards, and more recently I've started using the list of shows on our TiVo's KidZone to help him identify his favorite shows by sounding out their titles. His all-time favorite show, Super Why!, just happens to be all about reading ... so it all ties in pretty nicely together. That is, if you're not too proud to solicit popular media's help in teaching your 2-year-old to read. Which I'm not.

I am going to choose to call this a Marketable Skill:

And yes, the nose-picking is a strategic maneuver ... helps his concentration. I hear that all the geniuses are doing it.

That is awesome! What a smart boy!!! (and I think the nose picking is hilarious! At his age at least... if you did it, that'd be a different story! LOL!)

Sheesh! I should get on the ball. Christopher is 3 and I'm not even sure he recognizes his name. He's a huge SuperWhy fan though.

Excellent! It is not only phonics, but recognizing patterns of letter combinations. As in the "shape of words". I know you are proud as punch.

I'm not sure how much of it is reading and how much is just "recognizing," but I'm still proud! Thanks for enjoying it with us. :)
