We went to see it last night, based largely on two facts: 1) I adore Colin Firth, and 2) my personal movie reviewer Melanie said that I would like it.
Colin and Melanie didn't let me down. I loved almost every minute of it, not looking at my watch for the first time until 92 minutes into the film. (If I look at my watch within the first hour, I know a movie stinks.) Helena Bonham Carter didn't break out the crazy once; she was delightfully understated the whole time. And Geoffrey Rush ... my heavens! He can be my lovable old speech therapist any day.
Things were going GREAT until we walked out of the theatre, at which point I said to Grayson, "Huh. Looks like someone vomited on that wall." You see, as we were walking through the still semi-dark theatre to get out, I noticed a bunch of chewed popcorn and ... liquid ... on the wall and carpet. We all stepped carefully around it and kept going.
Once we got out of our actual theatre and into the main hallway, MORE VOMIT. They had cones set up. I felt my throat begin to constrict and my stomach begin to roll. The LAST thing I need to see or smell when I'm constantly on the verge of throwing up is SOMEONE ELSE'S THROW UP. Holy cow, Internet. I literally almost lost it.
We stopped at the restrooms, me thinking, "If there's a woman yakking in there, I'm making a beeline for the parking lot." Luckily, I was able to empty my bladder in relative peace. Grayson told me when we were walking to the car that it was obviously a guy, because one of the men's sinks was stopped up with popcorn vomit.
THANKS, HONEY. I really needed that sense of closure.
But seriously. If you haven't seen The King's Speech, please try to get there before it leaves the theatre. Great film! And nothing in it would cause you to throw up, other than the memory of my story. Sorry 'bout that.

So glad you liked it! I've seen it twice, and it was even better the second time around! And I agree, I've never seen Helena Bonham Carter so normal!
I was a little worry about Crazy Bonham Carter, too. Glad she kept it in check for this one. I must say, I didn't expect to see vomit when I saw the title of the post, but I think I'll get over it. I get sick when I see vomit, too, and I'm not pregnant.
I'm anxious to see it, but because of the volume issue, I'll wait until I can see it on DVD or a movie channel.
My children learned, at a young age, if they throw up, Mommy throws up, so watch out. One Sunday, a child threw up in the room. I had all the other children in the hall before the other teacher knew what happened. She got clean up duty.
I LOVED The King's Speech! One of my most favorite movies ever. I found out we have an interesting Williams family momento from that era. Dad (Big Gerry), being born and raised in Canada, remembers that time as a young boy. His Grandpa Williams bought a new testament Bible commemorating Edward's coronation and gave it to Dad. Of course Edward's coronation never happened. Dad still has the little Bible. He remembers that the events were all folks talked about back then. Fun to know there was a family connection.
I gave it an A...awesome movie with just the right amount of that silly English humor!
I never see movies or read books twice, but if I did, this would be one of them. I so enjoyed it!
