Pregnancy FAQ 1

You guys are too cute. I love how you want to know all the details ... and of course I can't believe I didn't already provide them. Usually I give you far too MUCH information, but somehow this time I skimped. Today and tomorrow I'm going to tackle all the questions left in the Comments over the last week, as well as the ones you guys e-mailed to me.

When are you due?
I can't BELIEVE I left this out. Actually, I can, because my brain is already gone. But unofficially, the date is Sept. 28. We are eight weeks along and, because we have always waited to tell until 12 or 13 weeks, this is going to seem like the longest pregnancy in the history of pregnancies.

Nicholas told a friend of mine (who coincidentally substitute taught  Nick's class the day after we told the boys, HI, NAT!), and at that time we hadn't even gotten in touch with my parents or any of Grayson's family. Sooooo, I started several days of phone-calling pretty much immediately following that.

Was this planned?
You know, it was not. But that doesn't make it any less joyous of an occasion for me. As you could probably tell from this post, we think it was a round of antibiotics I took in December that rendered my birth control pills useless, because we are dummies and forgot about that little nugget of information. Of course, if MY antibiotics had had the same bright yellow sticker on them that faithful reader BETH'S had on hers ...

... we likely wouldn't have experienced this unexpected blessing. (And she e-mailed me that image completely unsolicited, by the way. LOVE!) Nonetheless, given how sick I typically get with pregnancy, I might never have gotten up the courage to try it again ... so the Lord took things into His very capable hands, and here we are.

How did you find out?
Interesting. I went to my regular GP to have my thyroid checked on a Friday, like I do every six weeks. When they called me the following Monday with the results:

Nurse: "Your blah-blah-blah is fine, your blah-blah-blah looked great, your thyroid is still under-treated and we need to increase your meds, and your HCG level indicates pregnancy."

Me: [stunned into silence and wondering how she managed to just slide that in on the end there]

Nurse: "Mrs. H?"

Me: "Um, yes. What do you mean, indicates?"

Nurse: "You are pregnant."

Me: "That is surprising."

What did you think when you found out?
My first thought was, "Shoot. I hope Pottery Barn isn't out of those hooks. I have to call back and order a #4."

My second thought was, "Can pregnant women scuba dive?" Google gave me a big fat No. So that means that we have to cancel the trip we had planned with our friends Honor and Doug to go scuba diving in St. Kitts in June ... but we're hoping to just postpone it for a year or two. We should still be able to go on the family beach trip in July and should be able to travel for the holidays.

My third thought was, "For REAL? Seriously? Oh Lord, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't let me get as sick this time."

Are you going to continue to work?
As it was with the other three, that's my plan.  I feel like I'm pretty good at balancing the two (work and family) most of the time, and I still feel that's what I'm led to do right now.

Thanks for caring enough to ask the questions, and I'll be back tomorrow with more answers. If you've got any MORE for me, let me know and I'll try to get to them, too.

That's so funny. I actually thought about the hooks right after hearing your news.

Funny! I thought maybe you might be due sooner and you just kept it a secret from us. I wish for a cool summer for you. Being "big" pregnant in the summer is not fun!

Will you share the names on the ole' blawg? (Eventually, of course) I can't wait to hear the names... I'm a name freak! Haha

I think you were destined for a fourth no matter what. It just took a few antibiotics to do the trick.

YAYAYAYAY!! I missed the news the first time around (I just went back and re-read) so I'm just sitting here grinning from ear to ear.

Congratulations! What a happy, happy surprise.

You are right. You can not go scuba diving while you are pregnant. That is why you get pregnant on dive trips!

Erin, I knew I could count on someone to be right there with me on the hooks!

Beckie, nope. Haven't kept it a secret ... pretty hard to do once we told the boys. This is almost the exact same timeline (off by one week) from when I was pregnant with Nicholas, so I already know what I've got to deal with in terms of being pregnant during an Alabama Summer!

Shelb, yes, we'll share names, I'm sure.

Rachel, all three of the other boys came early, anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks.

Trista, thank you! We're thrilled!

Paige, yes, clearly God gave me the URI I had so I'd be forced to make a lapse in judgment. ;)

Laura, I'm touched that you're so excited for us! Thank you for sharing in our joy. Perhaps we'll get a Pigtail this time?

Kim, my OB said I should go ahead on the trip and just snorkel, but we're going to just postpone for a year or two. Next time!
